Gudrun Thorkildatter is an outcast Norse hunter who longs to be with her father and brother back home. That, or sail to Albion herself and join them adventuring and seeking fortune on distant shores. Instead, she’s slogging at a timber camp in the dangerous harbour town of Vestrijóborg, losing more silver than she can make, waiting for their return.
When a ship bearing their crest appears on the horizon it brings her hope; the last ship before winter ice blockades the coast and locks her in, and the men out. But, it won't be the last ship Gudrun discovers today. And, the secrets these ships hold unleash a terror obsessed with finding her village, forcing Gudrun to fight for her life and the lives of the family who had forsaken her.
Is the sinister legend about her village true? How can she stop invaders from ransacking her home? Has Gudrun ruined her one chance to save her clan and fulfil her destiny?
Gudrun will face the most difficult challenges of her life, but first, and in spite of the sorcerous warnings of a pestering raven, she needs to sort out why her naive little sister is here in Vestrijóborg harbour, about to be taken by the same loathsome slaver who refuses to pay Gudrun the money he owes her.
Kevin Saul lives in Ontario, Canada, with his family and their cat, Cleo. Kevin has a varied background, which includes having been a proud serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces, learned two handfuls of different trades, and ran a business.
He has been creating and sharing stories since childhood, writing and running role-playing adventures such as D&D and Warhammer, and is a continuing, enthusiastic student of the written word.
